"I have had the pleasure to work with Carice as her Team Lead during her time at J5 Design. During her time at J5, Carice demonstrated a strong passion for human-centered design and UX practices that showed up in the excitement she brought to both her work and the workplace. Her willingness to learn and grow in the areas outside of her comfort zone shows the tremendous dedication she has to the field of design. Her bright personality and enthusiasm makes Carice a wonderful addition to any team!"

"Carice was an important member of our project team at the University of British Columbia, A.R.T. & Justice Project. We appreciated that Carice walked us through the process of UX and helped us learn more about the user experience during her time with us. She worked well independently and also collaboratively as a team. We appreciated her passion for striving to make the user design for our platform has accessible as possible. She helped guide us and provide structure when needed, as this was our first time working with a UX designer. Highly recommend Carice for anyone’s project needs."

Digital Literacy for Incarcerated Learners of British Columbia
Digital Literacy for Incarcerated Learners of British Columbia
In collaboration with the University of British Columbia and Correctional Services Canada, I piloted the design for the inaugural offline SaaS platform focused on digital literacy and art creation learning for incarcerated individuals across British Columbia. Working alongside a team of researchers, content designers, and student volunteers, we developed a comprehensive information architecture and WCAG-compliant structure.
To address user access limitations, I gathered continuous feedback from a proxy group on parole, ensuring the design prioritized inclusive accessibility for users with limited digital literacy. This feedback loop ultimately informed usability testing within correctional facilities.

Transforming Relationship and Sexual Education (RSE) Delivery in Alberta
Collaborating with service designers at J5 and key members from Centre for Sexuality, I facilitated co-design workshops and was responsible for rigorous synthesis and data sensemaking using a human-centered design approach and the Double Diamond process. This guided the redesign of key components in the Relationship & Sexual Education (RSE) program, ensuring the new delivery model aligned with legislative changes and could adapt to evolving requirements.

AI-Powered Workspace Tool for Neurodivergents
Born out of Toast Dash, a hackathon empowering women in tech to take a business idea from zero to launch in one week, Breeze is an AI-powered task management tool.
As a two-person team, we combined our strengths in human-centered design, storytelling, and strategy to create a solution that helps neurodivergent individuals move from feeling overwhelmed at work to performing at their best. In just one week, we developed and validated Breeze AI by training it with IBM Watsonx, ensuring it effectively broke down workplace tasks and provided customized, prompted support to the user.

Fostering Creative Growth & Upskilling through Virtual Learning Experiences
During the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual communities became essential. Working closely with our founder and a team of workshop hosts, partnership leads, community leads, and designers, I led the product vision and delivery for Portfolio Campfire (a design portfolio-building product) and Cocoa Chats (a virtual coffee hangout event). I coordinated workshops, 1-on-1 mentorship, and small group check-ins with community members.
I also implemented data collection through surveys to align our offerings with community needs, and optimized the navigation and access of our e-commerce website, improving ease of access to product offerings and workshop information.

Constant upskilling? We love that! I believe in expressing my creativity through new methods, and I've realized that everything I've learned so far in design is now being applied to building Hue Are You, my upcoming colour analysis studio.
Stay tuned for more updates on Hue Are You, but in the meantime, enjoy the other cool things I’ve created!
